Less Taxing Services started with the realization that many people simply didn’t understand how tax law changes affected their daily lives. Sure, there are many financial gurus on TV explaining how finances affect quality of life, but so many of those financial decision boil down to tax law. Less Taxing Services was formed in 2014 to bring the missing piece of the financial education puzzle to our clients. Does my business really need a bookkeeper?

The short answer is yes. Bookkeeping is more than simply coding transactions to a general ledger. Understanding the fundamental tax laws that govern why an expense is deductible is where the complexity comes in. Good bookkeeping ensures the financial reports you see month after month don’t need major adjustments at tax time resulting in nasty and costly surprises.

Is my business required to run payroll?

Maybe. S Corps are required to pay their active shareholder’s reasonable compensation while Partnerships and Single Member LLC’s are not allowed to pay their owners on payroll. Independent contractors aren’t paid through traditional payroll as they receive a 1099-MISC at tax time, while regular employees do require payroll. Given all the different rules, we always recommend a review of your business structure and how the people that work for you are classified to ensure everyone is being paid the right way.

How is your approach to technology different?

It used to be getting information to the accountant meant gathering paper documents and driving over to the office to drop them off. Then, driving over again to pick up the finished work! We eliminate all the travel! We have technology that will fetch bank statements for us and we use secure online portals that allow documents to be exchanged with the snap of the camera on your smart phone. We’ll even use screen share technology for training sessions and to review documents. We’re always looking for ways to simply the process.

I’m not comfortable with all the technology, can we still work together?

Technology won’t be going away anytime soon. We base our pricing on our ability to work without needing to wait for clients to drop off documents or needing to remind people that we need information. Having someone outside our normal systems is difficult and can possibly result in missed information or worse yet, missed deadlines. It’s for this reason that we don’t accept clients that aren’t committed to the use of technology.


No question is too random, weird or far out there. All this financial stuff is complicated; we get it. That’s why we take care to ensure you have all the answers you need to make well-informed decisions about your financial life.


While we can’t eliminate any of the 70,000+ pages of the Federal Tax code, we certainly can make it easier to digest. We weed through all the technical jargon so you don’t have to, and provide up-to-date advice relevant to your financial situation.
